Thanks man! A good air brush set and some patience will get you a long way. From there on you just need to get some practice.
Knowledge on paint stripper (and then some more patience) never hurts either :D

(I stripped and repainted both the rock base and the croc's head, 'cause both had become way too dark at first.)

With me all things lead back to City. But a colorful Yautja catches my eye, even the "albino" he has orange and black coloring, it catches my eye!

There's a fantastic albino paint up here: http://takatinp.zombie.jp/p31.htm
I only wish I'd've thought of that one first!

Indeed!!! I'm hoping the new predator movie does something exotic like this with the new preds!!! I'm also trying to find a balance of getting more nice peices for my collection, it's either I by shoes or purses, then a pred figure. Next time I might stop myself before that and think of this albino figure!!! He wa stunning, thank you for the link!!!!

Easier said than done. :) For now I will just live vicariously through talented kit builders such as yourself. Garage kits are my favorite, so it's great to see more and more of them. I'll be checking in here for more updates.

Sorry, not much progress to show at the moment, just lots of masking tape. But I'll do my best for an update later this week :)

Absolutely amazing! I would have no idea where to even start on something like this. From the masking of what not to paint to the choice of colors to use on what should be painted, the entire process is simply mind boggling to me! I have experience with making 1:1 props, costumes, and sets look good on camera, but working in miniature is an art I will leave to an expert. I'm blown away by your attention to detail man! Outstanding work! (y)

Thanks man! I look at 1:1 props and full body suits in the same way, I wouldn't know where to start!
It's probably both mostly learning by doing (and learning by messing up, which I still regularly do).
But if you ever decide to take your film career in a different direction and become the next Ray Harryhausen, call me to come help with the miniatures :D

Another small update, been doing lots of small stuff, all the little pouches, skulls and belts around his waist. It still looks really dull and flat, but that should get better when I get around to doing washes and/or glazes. That will bring out the details a lot better.

A few pics showing some progress on all the little trinkets on his waist; first everything coloured in, then wash applied, wash removed and oil glaze applied and partly wiped off again. I'm reasonably saitisfied, though I feel this is not my strong point. I'm more confident with the air brush :)
No updates for the next 3 weeks; summer holiday with the family starts tommorrow!

This will be the last update before the final 'reveal'! Just some small details, applying a brownish oil glaze on the entire skin and painting / attaching the 30 separate dreads are left to do. I'll try to take some good quality pictures when I'm all done.

Since last update I've applied a wash and an oil glaze on the shin and wrist guards, painted the beads on his waist (hopefully to resemble opals somewhat), painted the bone necklace, as well as the eyes, teeth, gums, nails and boomerang.

Still not sure whether to go for plain black dreads, or 'elder style' grey/black..?

I personally think elder-styled dreads would fit extremely well with the established color-scheme. Really loving this paint up!

Again, the details just blow me away mate...It's those little bits that push it the extra mile..I mean, look at those freakin' beads (excuse my language).. It's like, I can guess what those beads are made up off, they look like real, polished, mother-of-pearl/blue-glass beads..

I agree with Nic too..I reckon elder like dreads would make this way beyond perfect..

Thanks guys! I guess ‘elder dreads’ it is then :D More of a challenge to paint, haven’t tried that before, so should be interesting.

I painted the beads with something called pebeo prisme paint, which was supposed to create a ‘prism-like’ effect that I hoped would resemble opal to fit in with the Aboriginal theme. However, the surface area of the beads was probably too small for the effect to occur, so that didn’t turn out as I’d intended. The paint does have a nice iridescent effect, so it wasn’t a complete loss since I could use it to paint an opal-like appearance by hand.

Dude, I'm sure you'd pull it off easily :)

See, to think you even thought about using a specialised paint for the beads brings it totally to a next level..outstanding M

Man....without a bio they are UGLY but without dreads...:-) anyway...that is one amazing sculpture and those painted details you showed are equal to the sculpt work. Well done.

Thanks, doing my best! All credit for the sculpture is for Narin, I'm just painting it :)

At the moment a luscious hair do is in the making; 30 separate dreads, all airbrushed (elder style!) with about 60 beads to be painted by hand; a bit tedious but eventually it will look really cool (I hope!). Anyway, I've done an oil glaze last weekend and have to wait for that to dry (which takes really long even with alkyd medium added to speed up drying time), and the dreads can keep me busy while I wait.
